Travel and coverage across Sydney

Pawssum vets cover the inner west through Marrickville, Merrylands and Strathfield, the north shore through Chatswood, Artarmon and Beecroft, the northern beaches through Dee Why, the east through Randwick, Rosebery and Matraville, the west through Penrith, Liverpool, Blacktown and Colyton, and the south west through Campbelltown and Narellan. There is no separate travel fee inside our standard Sydney service area, so the $399 quoted on the phone is the $399 on the invoice.

Outside that area a travel component is quoted before you book, never added afterwards. Across the rest of the Sydney market: usually included in a package price. where it is charged separately, sydney providers publish $49 to $70, and one applies a surcharge beyond 10km from its base. Some practices charge travel by the kilometre and others by zone, so when you ring around, ask which one you are being quoted.

Pet cremation in Sydney

Cremation is booked separately from the euthanasia and is usually the largest part of the total. In Sydney, general cremation with no ashes returned runs $190 to $199, and only two Sydney providers publish it at all. Private cremation with the ashes returned runs $250 to $549 for a dog under about 10kg and $250 to $600 for a dog over 40kg.

With Pawssum, general cremation starts at $279 and private cremation at $459 whatever your dog weighs. We work with Buddy crematorium.

Urn or memorial box

About $99 for a scatter box, $175 to $200 for ceramic or timber, $250 for metal, and $360 to $495 at the top of the range

Collection and transport

Collection is often bundled into a package price. Where it is charged separately it runs $49 to $70 in business hours, and the after-hours loadings are the steepest in the country at $255 on a Saturday, $275 on a Sunday and $450 on a public holiday

If you would rather arrange cremation yourself you can call Buddy, Petrest at North Parramatta, Heavenly Creatures and Pets at Peace all serve Sydney.

What changes the price in Sydney

  • Distance from the city. Outer Sydney and the fringe usually attract a travel component from practices that charge by the kilometre.
  • After hours. Evenings, weekends and public holidays carry a loading at most practices. Pawssum does not apply one.
  • Which crematorium. Sydney crematoria rates differ widely, from $190 to $549 across the providers who publish their prices, so the same dog can cost noticeably more or less depending on where the booking goes.
  • Who handles transport. Some providers include collection in the cremation price and some invoice it separately.

Low-cost dog euthanasia in Sydney

If cost is what is stopping you, RSPCA NSW at Yagoona, the Animal Welfare League NSW and Sydney Dogs and Cats Home are the places to ring in New South Wales. Several offer reduced fees for owners holding a pension or healthcare card, and eligibility is assessed case by case rather than published as a price list.

Published concession rates are rare. Glenwood Mobile Vet publishes 10 per cent off for pension and senior card holders, and The Wild Vet publishes 10 per cent for Pensioner Concession Card holders plus another 10 per cent for rescue pets. Most providers publish none at all, which does not mean none exists, only that you have to ask.

Questions Sydney families ask

Can I bury my dog at home in Sydney?

No Sydney council publishes a clear position on burying a dog at home. Liverpool is the only one that addresses burial at all, and its guidance covers small pets such as rabbits and fish rather than dogs. The NSW Department of Primary Industries publishes burial rules for deceased stock only.

How quickly can a vet come out in Sydney?

Pawssum can usually attend the same day across Sydney, seven days a week between 6:00am and 11:00pm. If your dog is distressed now, Call 0480 030 580 rather than booking online.

Why can I not find a Sydney vet clinic's euthanasia price online?

Because almost none of them publish it. When you ring, ask four things: the euthanasia fee, whether a consultation is charged on top, whether sedation is included, and what cremation would add.

At-home euthanasia in Sydney with Pawssum starts at $399 and includes sedation, so your dog is asleep and comfortable before anything else happens. We can usually attend the same day, and the price does not change in the evening or at the weekend.

If you are not certain it is time, say so when you call, or work through our quality of life assessment first. Our team would rather talk it through with you than book an appointment you are not ready for.

Is there a travel fee for a home visit in Sydney?
