Our calculator uses the standard veterinary formula for calculating canine energy requirements:

RER = 70 x (body weight in kg) x 0.75
This Resting Energy Requirement (RER) is then multiplied by a factor based on your dog's life stage, activity level, and neuter status to calculate their Daily Energy Requirement (DER).
These formulas are used by veterinary nutritionists worldwide and are based on decades of research.
For weight loss, we calculate the RER at your dog's ideal weight and use appropriate multipliers to ensure safe, gradual weight reduction of 1-2% body weight per week.
