What are the signs a dog is suffering?

A dog that is struggling may show several physical and behavioural changes. Common signs include persistent pain, laboured breathing, frequent vomiting or diarrhoea, or difficulty standing and walking.

You might notice loss of interest in food, water, toys, or social interaction. Some dogs become restless, whine, pace, or hide, while others seem withdrawn and detached. Accidents indoors, confusion, or disrupted sleep can also indicate declining comfort.

No single sign gives the full picture, so it’s helpful to track changes over days or weeks. Bringing notes, photos, or videos to your vet can support a thorough evaluation of your dog’s day‑to‑day wellbeing.
