Pet nail clipping is an essential aspect of pet grooming that involves trimming the nails of cats, dogs, and other pets to maintain their health and well-being. Pawssum offers a reliable, convenient and stress-free nail clipping service at your home. Your furry friend will hate have its nails done, so the Pawssum way (ie the at-home way) is by far the best way!
May pets will require regular clipping, as nails grow quickly, and if they are not exercised on firm pavements or kept inside a lots, they may need nail clipping every couple of months.
SHOULD I TRY NAILCLIPPING MYSELF
As a pet owner, it’s natural to want to take care of your furry friend’s grooming needs. However, when it comes to clipping your pet’s nails, it’s often best to leave it to the professionals. Clipping your pet’s nails can be a daunting task, and it’s important to understand the risks involved in attempting to do it yourself.
Firstly, one of the biggest risks of clipping your pet’s nails yourself is causing pain or injury to your pet. If you accidentally cut the nail too short, you could cut into the quick, which is the living part of the nail that contains blood vessels and nerves. This can be painful for your pet and can lead to bleeding and infection. Additionally, if your pet is particularly fidgety or difficult to handle, there is a risk that you could accidentally cut their skin or cause other injuries while trying to clip their nails.
Secondly, it’s important to understand that different pets have different types of nails and require different approaches to nail clipping. For example, dogs have thick, curved nails that can be difficult to cut straight across, while cats have sharp, retractable claws that require a different technique altogether. If you don’t have experience with the specific type of nail you’re trying to clip, you could end up making things worse for your pet.
Thirdly, pets can be sensitive to unfamiliar or uncomfortable situations, and attempting to clip their nails at home can cause them unnecessary stress and anxiety. This can make the process more difficult and may even lead to behavior problems down the line. Veterinarians are trained to handle pets in a way that minimizes stress and discomfort, making the experience more pleasant for both you and your pet.
Lastly, leaving nail clipping to the professionals can help ensure that your pet’s nails are properly trimmed and filed to prevent future problems. Overgrown nails can cause a range of issues for pets, including discomfort, difficulty walking, and even infections. Veterinarians know how to trim nails to the appropriate length and can also file them down to ensure a smooth, comfortable surface for your pet to walk on.
WHY NAIL CLIPPING IS IMPORTANT
Pet nail clipping is an important aspect of pet grooming and healthcare. Here are some reasons why:
- Preventing pain and discomfort: Overgrown nails can cause pain and discomfort for pets. They can grow into the paw pad, which can be extremely painful and can even lead to infection. By keeping your pet’s nails trimmed, you can prevent these painful situations from occurring.
- Maintaining proper posture and gait: Overgrown nails can cause changes in your pet’s posture and gait, which can lead to long-term health problems. For example, if your dog’s nails are too long, it can change the way they distribute weight on their paws, causing strain on their joints and muscles.
- Protecting your home and furniture: Pets with overgrown nails can scratch and damage furniture, flooring, and even walls. Keeping their nails trimmed can prevent this damage and save you money in repairs.
- Reducing the risk of injury: Overgrown nails can also increase the risk of injury for your pet. Long nails can catch on things, causing your pet to trip and fall or even injure themselves. By keeping their nails trimmed, you can reduce the risk of these accidents occurring.
- Better hygiene: Pets with overgrown nails can also be more prone to collecting dirt, debris, and bacteria underneath their nails. This can lead to infections and other health problems. Regular nail trimming helps to maintain better hygiene and reduces the risk of these problems.

Happy treatment
We had dr cooper
He was fantastic, friendly
The whole team were great
Highly recommend them highly
Very compassionate
Dr Cooper was wonderful with our beloved April. All options were discussed thoroughly. Our beautiful girl and us were treated with the utmost respect and care. She went to sleep in her own bed in her own home surrounded by… the people who loved her. If there is such a thing as a good death, April had it. Read more “Very compassionate”

Fantastic service
Pawssum was fantastic to deal with and made the booking process of letting our family dog go so much easier. I called around to a few local vets a day before a public holiday and wasn’t able to get anyone… to do a home visit as all were fully booked, I wish I came across Pawssum earlier as Dr Beshoy came out in under 2 hours after I submitted the booking. Thank you Dr Beshoy for your extreme kindness and professionalism. You made a heartbreaking decision so much easier. Read more “Fantastic service”
Thanks Dr Stephen
We initially requested a Quality of Life assessment of our 12 year old GSD Xena because we wanted to be certain there was nothing further we could do for her. Based on Dr Stephen’s assessment, we opted for euthanasia. Dr… Stephen gave us options, and did not rush the process, however his assessment was clear which is exactly what we wanted. During the euthanasia process, Dr Stephen was extremely kind and patient, he made recommendations that would assist Xena during the process, and the way he treated Xena and the manner he spoke to her was lovely . Thanks so much Dr Stephen. You made a very hard process much easier, not only with your skills and competencies as a vet, but your kindness to Xena and her family as well. Pawssum is Amazing
Around 10pm I was very worried about our senior fur friend. She had no coordination with her back legs and was completely off her food. Rang Pawssum after finding them on line and the response was amazing. They were able… to get someone to come to the house within an hour. The service was great and my mind was immediately put at ease with the result. Our fur friend is pretty well back to normal and loving her food and walks again. Read more “Pawssum is Amazing”
