Comprehensive aftercare plans customised for your cat's euthanasia

Compassionate support from Pawssum every step of the way - At Pawssum, we're here to help you say goodbye to your beloved pet with compassion and care - right in the comfort of your own home. Our gentle in-home euthanasia services provide a calm and familiar setting for your pet's final moments, free from the stress of a clinic visit. Our friendly team will take care of all the details for you, including organising the visit, arranging aftercare, and returning your pet's ashes in the urn of your choice. We work closely with professional and respectful cremation partners. Your pet can be collected directly from your home by cremation staff or transported by the attending vet. If you prefer a home burial, be sure to check your local council's regulations.

Private pet cremation - Private cremation is a personal way to honour your pet's life. Ashes are returned to you in a beautiful urn or scatter box, allowing you to create a lasting memorial at home or in a meaningful place - like the garden, beach, or a favourite walking trail. A variety of urns and memorial options are available to suit your preferences.

General pet cremation services - If you choose not to have your pet's ashes returned, general cremation is a simple and respectful option. We understand this is a personal decision and encourage you to take your time. Many pet owners find comfort in having something to remember their pet by and may change their mind later - we're here to support you either way.

Flexible payment plans available - To help ease financial stress during this emotional time, we offer payment options through Zip Pay and Vet Pay. These flexible plans make it easier to give your pet a peaceful and dignified farewell.

If you are not ready to speak with someone and just want a little more guidance on whether euthanasia is the right decision, you can use our quality of life assessment tool below. Our friendly and compassionate vet will assess your cat's vitals, overall condition, levels of pain, discomfort, mobility, illnesses, and any other welfare related issues. Frequently asked questions (FAQs) for cat euthanasia

A familiar environment is so much better for an end-of-life experience, where your beloved pet is comfortable in their own home surrounded by the people (and other pets) who love them. You can set the day and time when to say goodbye, and do things like light candles and play soft music during the euthanasia. You and your family can grieve in privacy and comfort.

We believe that pet owners should have the option of good quality veterinary care at home at little or no extra cost when compared to going to the vet clinic. Our vets are all registered, experienced, professional and compassionate who love to help pets. Our customers give us a superb rating.

Our euthanasia services start from $399. We take Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit/debit cards as well as Vet Pay and Zip Pay.

Euthanasia enables your vet to cause a painless death, or to stop providing life-support measures, to your pet. It can be done only by a certified veterinarian, after taking all measures to try to help your dog, and only with your consent.

Signs will include not having an appetite, not being able to walk, yelps due to pain, medications not working, your pet giving up, your pet avoiding its bed, and general suffering. If you are not sure that it is time for euthanasia, you can book our quality of life assessment or a Telepet video call or chat, and one of our experienced vets will guide you.

It is recommended not to give your dog any food or water two hours before the procedure. Ask the vet any questions you have, so that there are no surprises, including how to make it as compassionate as possible. Decide on whether you and your family want to be present and make sure everybody knows what will happen. It is very important to celebrate your pet's last days - whether it’s a trip to its favourite park or one last photo, surround it with love, care and joy one last time. Everybody will be grieving, so be prepared for that time and put in place a support mechanism for this.

The decision about leaving or staying is deeply personal, and whatever you decide it should come from a place of love and compassion you have for your pet. Choosing to stay will give you a sense of comfort, closure and acceptance, and a healthy ground for the grieving process. It's important to avoid feeling regret. However, some owners prefer to say goodbye before the euthanasia and that's also ok. In terms of children, you need to carefully consider if they are old enough to comprehend the concept of euthanasia, and whether they want to witness it.

Euthanasia may appear uncomfortable to the pet owner. However, it will not be painful for your pet. A combination of drugs used during euthanasia ensure that within seconds, awareness is gone and the animal falls into a state of unconsciousness. During the next couple of minutes after the drugs are given there may be nerve and muscle twitching, vocalizations, urination, defecation, and open eyelids - these might be scary to see but your pet will be unconscious and unaware of all of these actions. They will not feel any pain.

Yes, we offer a number of aftercare options including gently, carefully and with utmost respect, handling and transporting your pet following euthanasia; cremation with friends (other pets); private cremation; having your beloved pet's ashes scattered in the crematorium gardens; having your pet's ashes returned to you in a lovely container, tube or an urn; paw prints and other memorabilia.
