Pawssum’s at-home blood test involves our veterinarian coming to your home to collect a blood sample from your pet. This is typically done by using a needle to draw a small amount of blood from a vein, usually in the animal’s leg or neck.
The collected blood sample is then analyzed by a laboratory to evaluate your pet’s overall health status, detect any underlying health problems or diseases, monitor the effectiveness of ongoing treatments, or evaluate your pet’s organ function.
Common blood tests that mobile vets perform at home include a Complete Blood Count (CBC), which measures the number and types of cells in the blood, and a Blood Chemistry Panel, which evaluates the levels of various chemicals and enzymes in the blood.
The benefits of having a mobile vet perform an at-home blood test include the convenience of not having to take your pet to a veterinary clinic, reduced stress and anxiety for your pet, and the ability to obtain results more quickly and efficiently.
Overall, an at-home blood test by a mobile vet can provide important information about your pet’s health, aid in early detection of potential health issues, and help to ensure that your pet receives appropriate care and treatment.
REASONS FOR PET BLOOD TESTS
There are several reasons why your pet might need an at-home blood test, including:
- Routine health screening: At-home blood tests can help to screen for underlying health issues or diseases, even if your pet is not showing any signs of illness. Regular screening can help detect early signs of illness and help you and your vet develop a proactive treatment plan.
- Pre-anesthetic testing: Before your pet undergoes any anesthesia for a surgical or dental procedure, your vet may recommend a blood test to assess your pet’s health status and determine if they are a suitable candidate for anesthesia.
- Monitoring ongoing health issues: If your pet is undergoing treatment for a chronic illness, such as diabetes or kidney disease, regular blood tests can help monitor the effectiveness of the treatment and adjust the treatment plan as necessary.
- Evaluation of organ function: Blood tests can provide important information about your pet’s organ function, including the liver, kidneys, and thyroid gland. This information can help your vet diagnose and manage various health conditions.
- Diagnosis of illness or disease: In some cases, blood tests may be used to diagnose specific illnesses or diseases. For example, a blood test can help diagnose anemia, heartworm disease, or tick-borne diseases.
INFORMATION DETECTED BY BLOOD TESTS
At-home pet blood tests can detect various illnesses and problems in pets. Some of the most common ones include:
- Diabetes: At-home blood glucose tests can help diagnose and monitor diabetes in pets.
- Liver disease: Liver function tests can indicate whether a pet’s liver is functioning normally or not.
- Kidney disease: Blood tests can measure the levels of creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) in a pet’s blood, which are indicators of kidney function.
- Anemia: Blood tests can detect low levels of red blood cells or hemoglobin, indicating anemia.
- Infections: Blood tests can identify the presence of bacterial or viral infections in pets.
- Thyroid problems: Thyroid function tests can indicate whether a pet has hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
- Allergies: Blood tests can measure a pet’s immunoglobulin levels to identify potential allergens.
If you suspect that your pet is ill or has a medical condition, it’s always best to consult with a veterinarian.

Happy treatment
We had dr cooper
He was fantastic, friendly
The whole team were great
Highly recommend them highly
Very compassionate
Dr Cooper was wonderful with our beloved April. All options were discussed thoroughly. Our beautiful girl and us were treated with the utmost respect and care. She went to sleep in her own bed in her own home surrounded by… the people who loved her. If there is such a thing as a good death, April had it. Read more “Very compassionate”

Fantastic service
Pawssum was fantastic to deal with and made the booking process of letting our family dog go so much easier. I called around to a few local vets a day before a public holiday and wasn’t able to get anyone… to do a home visit as all were fully booked, I wish I came across Pawssum earlier as Dr Beshoy came out in under 2 hours after I submitted the booking. Thank you Dr Beshoy for your extreme kindness and professionalism. You made a heartbreaking decision so much easier. Read more “Fantastic service”
Thanks Dr Stephen
We initially requested a Quality of Life assessment of our 12 year old GSD Xena because we wanted to be certain there was nothing further we could do for her. Based on Dr Stephen’s assessment, we opted for euthanasia. Dr… Stephen gave us options, and did not rush the process, however his assessment was clear which is exactly what we wanted. During the euthanasia process, Dr Stephen was extremely kind and patient, he made recommendations that would assist Xena during the process, and the way he treated Xena and the manner he spoke to her was lovely . Thanks so much Dr Stephen. You made a very hard process much easier, not only with your skills and competencies as a vet, but your kindness to Xena and her family as well. Pawssum is Amazing
Around 10pm I was very worried about our senior fur friend. She had no coordination with her back legs and was completely off her food. Rang Pawssum after finding them on line and the response was amazing. They were able… to get someone to come to the house within an hour. The service was great and my mind was immediately put at ease with the result. Our fur friend is pretty well back to normal and loving her food and walks again. Read more “Pawssum is Amazing”
