Technology helps tackle Australia's vet shortage

Technology and innovation such as that driving home vet service Pawssum, could be the answer to the record number of Australian veterinarians abandoning the industry, which is prompting fears there won’t be enough vets to take care of the nation’s pets.

A recent Lincoln Institute survey found that nearly 90 per cent of veterinary business owners and managers reported unprecedented difficulty filling vacancies. Forty one per cent waited longer than six months to fill positions and 18 per cent waited up to two years or more to find new vets to work in their clinics. Read More.

Sydney startup Pawssum helps pet owners book and manage at-home vet visits

For all the joy they bring, owning a pet can be expensive. For example, the Australian Veterinary Association has found that dog owners can spend more than $25,000, on average, over the average lifespan of a dog. As well as the initial cost of buying or adopting a dog, owners can spend around $900 or so a year on their dog – with dogs living up to 20 years, this adds up.

Pet project pays off in virtual veterinarian advice

UNWELL pets no longer need to go through the stress of attending a vet clinic with the new Pawssum app bringing veterinary specialists to the comfort of their home.

App co-founders Mike Sager, Guy Sharabi and Barry Green set up the app in August to create a convenient and stress-free service for pet owners.
